4 out of 5 stars It works in my 260d   April 26, 2010

It works in my E260d. Super convenient.

In order to refill all you have to do is open the door, remove the assembly, push the gray button and remove the toner housing. On the side of the toner housing is a big disk. Pull that off. Underneath are two rubber or silicone (not plastic) plugs. Pull those out but be careful as there will be some residual toner and it can be messy. Pour the new stuff in, put the plugs and disk back on, clean up, put the housing in the assembly, put it back in your printer, and you're good to go. One note is that this does not reset the toner's "brain" and it will still tell you that you're out of ink.

3 out of 5 stars Results with Refill Toner   February 19, 2010

I have the Lexmark e260dn. Overall, a very good machine for the multi-computer family. My usage is casual - term papers and smaller than small office printing. My biggest gripe is the cost of the OEM replacement cartridges (about $80 to 120). Other Lexmark cartridges are $40-50. No third party cartridges are available yet.

The refill instructions were clear and accurate. I refilled the starter cartridge. Toner is a very fine powder be careful when refilling else toner will poof everywhere. Messy, but cleanup is not bad with wet cloth/paper towel. Performance of refill toner is good. I did not really expect to clumps of toner on the pages. Small fonts are accurately printed and readable.

OEM cartridge is better in this regard: OEM toner totally bonds to paper. Under normal handling, refill toner is indistinguishable. However, a finger rubbed vigorously over the print will remove unbonded toner. This will be more evident on large areas of toner. The impact on text depends on the font style and size, of course. This was discovered using multipurpose (mp) 20# paper from Staples and Xerox 24# mp paper. I have no laser specific paper to test.

NOTE: This may be a problem with the fuser temperature in the printer and not a toner problem. I am not an expert. I have been using the refill for more than a month and just noticed the problem because I printed a color PDF that resulted in a lot of large grey areas.

Increasing the toner darkness, helped somewhat but greys moved closer to black making the black on grey sections harder to read.

1 out of 5 stars Stay away - buy the cartridge   May 20, 2010

The white bottle is misleading - the toner comes in a small pouch. The pouch only weighs only 3.6 oz. Make sure you clear a space to work in as it WILL get messy. I uploaded some photos of the process to help others. The included instructions were okay. Remove the large black wheel and then the grey disk (which is actually two disks stacked on top of each other). Remove the 1st top disk with pilers and then the second (again with pilers).

I'm hoping the photos will help. Next, make a funnel from heavy card stock - DO NOT TRY AND POUR THE TONER INTO THE LITTLE HOLE from the pouch (I read this somewhere else - good advice). Tear the pouch and slowly empty the contents into the funnel. No matter how hard you try, you will make a mess. And don't even think about the airborne toner carcinogens you're inhaling while pouring it out. Replace the disks and gently shake over a sink (to remove any stray toner that didn't make it). Return the cartridge to the printer. It took me about 10 minutes to do this (including taking photos).

So far the results (i.e. printing) are good but as the other reviewer said, the low toner light is still on. I saved $50 - $80+ dollars doing it myself. I did it to save money - if I had the money, I would probably buy a new toner cartridge.

UPDATE - A WEEK AFTER USING THE TONER: After a week using the DIY toner, I bit the bullet and ended up purchasing a new toner cartridge as the quality of this stuff is very poor. It smudges very easily on label stock and don't even think about printing graphics or type that is bolded. I just wish there was a way to empty this stuff into a bag and send it back for a refund.
